To Kill A King: Cleveland Cavalier Fans Make Their Own Chant Sheet For LeBron’s Return

We all know that the entire city of Cleveland, and quite possibly the state of Ohio, are all bitter at LeBron James for leaving to go play second fiddle to Dwyane Wade down in South Beach. With arguably the most anticipated game of the season coming up on Thursday (Dec 2), when ‘Bron makes his return to play his former team at the Quickens Loan Arena, the fans of Cleveland have put together their very own “chant” sheet for every time he touches the ball, name is called, when to start to the chants, ect. Cavs’ owner Dan Gilbert stated that he hopes things don’t get out of hand, but I think even deep down he’s going to be doing some of these chants. Check out the post that Sabrina B. (@gametimegirl) from Inflexwetrust.com posted via Twitter.

  1. I grew up in Cleveland, and even though I moved to Boston years ago, I never lost my loyalty to Cleveland sports. I watched the Indians lose the World Series on an error, I watched my dad renounce the NFL after the Art Modell fiasco. My favorite team, however, was always the Cavs. In the 90s i went to so many games, got to watch the Jordan/Pippen Bulls beat us in the finals. But even after all that, I have to say that this LeBron situation is pretty depressing. I mean, you can’t blame him for wanting a chance at a ring, but try explaining that to the six-year-olds who idolize him in C-town. I think Cleveland sporting events are the best, and I love that the fans are doing this. I will definitely be tuning in!

  4. I totally understand how Cleveland feels and somewhat feel that maybe LeBron deserves it. I have never seen such a planned out schedule of harrassment and wonder how it will all play out. Congrats on being freshly pressed.

  5. It’s sad that the people at Ohio still can’t get over this.

It’s like when a guy breaks up with his highschool sweet heart after highschool then goes to college and can’t stop thinking about her. It’s pathetic.

Every time they do talk about him, it just adds another reason for another superstar not to go there.

I mean God sake, he grew up in Ohio, brought Cleveland on the map, and helped them get to the play offs and a NBA finals game and this is how you repay him?

If I was a superstar looking to go somewhere I’d never go to Cleveland

I still haven’t seen anything that makes Lebron James a bad person.

He stills helps out the people of Ohio through charity. He hasn’t gotten charged for anything, hasn’t talked bad about Cleaveland and hasn’t gotten caught cheating on his wife.

  6. That chant is pretty vindictive. I’m not even a big fan of Lebron or the Heat.

That’s going too far to me, Instead of Focusing on bring Lebron James down. How about Focusing on Rebuilding the team. Last time I checked you guys lost 2 hall of famers both Shaq and Lebron.

How are you going to rebound from that, Mo Williams can’t do it as the #1 guy, not even as # 2, as we saw in the playoffs for the past two years.

You guys should be focusing on how to make your team contenders again. Or do you want it to be like it was 8 years ago?

Where no one knew who the cavs were and they (the team and the city) was considered no bodies.

  7. Acts like this chant sheet are a reminder of what a classless city Cleveland is.

LeBron James fufilled his contractual obligation to Cleveland and he was free to go wherever he wanted to go. He did not have to stay in Cleveland, a town who throws their sports teams under the bus quicker than a woman changes her underwear.

So he made his “decision” on live television, so what? Is it against the law or frowned upon to do so? People forget the tantrum that Kobe Bryant threw if the Lakers were to keep Shaq around. Remember he threatened to play for the Clippers or Hawks?

But my main issue is if the crowd wants to perform these chants, at least make them valid.

For example: “He has no ring”, well last time I checked the Cavs have no rings either. Only an Eastern Conference championship, which LeBron was a part of in 2007.

LeBron is just another name on the list of so-called Cavalier greats to never win a ring there, here’s the list for you: Austin Carr, Bingo Smith, Roy Hinson, Brad Daugherty, Mark Price, Ron Harper, Larry Nance, Craig Ehlo, Steve Kerr and Lebron James all never won a ring. So where are the “He has no ring chants for those guys”? Especially for Kerr and Harper, who went the rival Bulls to win three rings.

The city of Cleveland should just be grateful that they aquired a talent like LeBron. I mean he did bring alot of money into that cities economy, brought alot of media attention to the city, and at least gave them a sense of hope that they could win.

It’s alot like a broken relationship or marriage, Cleveland, get over it. Why cry or complain about it? If the situation just did not work, then leave it alone and move on. Of course there will be boo’s but let’s face it, the Cavaliers (with LeBron) didn’t get it done.

Makes no sense to “hate” a guy that truly never had any loyalty anyway. LeBron does not want to be another Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing or Reggie Miller: great players with no championships. If LeBron couldn’t get it done in your uniform, then on to the next. Just like a person’s job, if it’s not benefiting you—-then leave. You don’t hear companies creating chant sheets because an administrative assistant left, so what Cleveland, move on. Maybe if the city supported their teams alittle more, then I would feel alittle sorry for you.

  8. Cleveland fans need to stop hating I know that whoever of them were in his position they would have taken the job too. Money rules the world. Plus Cleveland sucks! Miami is the place to be.

  9. You’ve GOT to be kidding! One question: “did any of those Cleveland fans ever consult LeBron on any of their career moves or personal life decisions??? Basketball’s a business – GET OVER IT, people!!!

  10. Like the chants, and look forward to hearing them tonight, but I think it would be wicked cool and absolutely fitting if, when Mr. James is introduced, the fans stood up, turned their backs, and let silence rain down upon his head. It would take some coordinating, but it would be awesome. There will be plenty of time for boos and chants thoughtout the game, but only that one moment to let Mr. James “hear” the nothingness that is his spirit.

  11. Ah hahaha. This is hilarious. Poor Scottie P has to be in the chant though. What can one say LeBron did them wrong… and the “fans” are still bitter.

  12. so funny! it would be amazing to see this happen tonight.

  13. I think Cleveland fans still sound like a bunch of scorned/bitter lovers. With that said, I hope the Q is filled w/ all these chants. It would be epic.

I don’t care which team wins–it’ll prob be interesting either way.

I do hope LeBron drops a triple-double to the tune of 50 points, 25 rebounds, 15 assists. Just so everyone can stop acting like he’s not one of the 5 best players in the League b/c he’s not wearing a Cavs uni.

  15. Lacking class, Cleveland! When someone you love leave you, don’t you know that the worst possible thing you can do to them is to ignore them? Don’t you know that the best revenge is living well? Build a team that beats him — that would be more effective, poignant and upstanding, than childish jeers.

  16. Wow… on a pedalstool one day, kicked off the next… this is extreme lol

  17. Yikes, I can understand bitterness, but this takes it to a whole new level. It’s very humorous, but are the fans now bringing themselves down to LeBron’s level? Yes, he screwed up, and sure, there’s definitely going to be some fall out. I just hope that they don’t take it too far and make THEMSELVES look as bad as Lebron did in the summer.

  18. Hi, erm not sure I totally agree with the chants. Well I do of course, he deserves them. I am a huge fan of both football(soccer) and basketball. I know the LeBron story well, and agree that he has let the state of Ohio down by switching to the Heat. But, as a football fan I don’t really see the big deal? The best players all join the same teams all the time to win (Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Man United) and although basketball is different to football I understand his need to win. He tried for 7 years in Cleveland and couldn’t so why not try somewhere else? He deserves a hard time tonight though, that’s a part of any sport when you return to an old club you left on bad terms, you’re going to get harassed. Yes ‘The Decision’ was ludicrious and for that he deserves a very hard time, just don’t hate on him because he wanted to win. (And no I am not a LeBron fan or Heat fan, I support the Orlando Magic and Arsenal Football Club, so I am biased to no side in this ongoing argument) Nice article though, made for some good reading before the match starts. I’m from Ireland so will be staying up late to watch this one! haha!

  20. Living in Cleveland and being a Cavs fan, all I can say is that is a LOT to remember. Will they be handing out chant sheets at the games? I will have to be focusing more on the chants then the actual game…

    • When I first heard he was being courted by Miami…I thought…hmmm….warm sun, South Beach…million dollar mansion (many millions), hot babes, I’m 24, a superstar, and wealthy, the ocean, my new yacht….yeah…there never was a doubt… he was going to S.Beach…never a doubt in my mind..as long as he got the offer…

Cleveland? uh…well..there’s the rock and roll hall of fame, that’s pretty cool.

  32. Given that the Cavs let ‘Bron bend us over again last night, I think that Cleveland and it’s inhabitants (myself included) can officially be termed ‘tired old maids’.'Nickel Beer Night’? The time Browns fans hailed the field with batteries? Where’s that kind of rage? I think once Forbes magazine dubbed us one of the most miserable cities to live in, we broke down like a little kid who just got rolled for his milk money.
